There are many benefits associated with K-12 schools. In the SS2020 vision, with new schools within a short distance from one another in a campus, resources can be shared, peer teaching and learning opportunities are strengthened, and teacher collaboration spanning grades is made possible, among other things.
A Sustainability Study of Sackville’s 3 schools is about to begin. The DEC has scheduled three public meetings as part of the formal consultation process, and all members of the community are encouraged to take part.
And now… we wait. The Ernst and Young review has been submitted to the School District Superintendent and delivered to the elected members of the DEC. DEC members will take the summer to read the report and will discuss it at the next DEC meeting in September. In the meantime, we will work to keep the movement going by encouraging communication on a local and provincial level.

This event will focus on NB's 10-Yr Education plan and what that means for Sackville's schools. Key speakers include Chris Treadwell, Assistant Deputy Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, and Gregg Ingersoll, Anglophone East School District Superintendent.
A vision of community hub schools with innovative curriculum developments and delivery is not some fantastical dream. Here in Sackville and across the province, educators are beginning the shift toward experiential learning and outdoor education. We must celebrate it, systematize it, and facilitate more movement toward a 21st century education to prepare our children for a changing world.
It takes leadership throughout the education system to allow for authentic learning to take place. That is why leadership must occur at the top, through the Minister and the Department of Education, in the middle at the school district and school principal levels, and at the local level, where we must respect and work with the judgement and experience of our teachers.
