A meeting in Fredericton

SS2020 Invited to Meet with Members of NB Legislative Assembly & The Minister of EECD

Friday, November 30, 2018

Just shortly after the Throne Speech of the new minority government of New Brunswick was passed, members of Sackville Schools 2020 were invited to the Legislature in Fredericton to meet with the members of the Green Party of New Brunswick, as well as the new Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development.

Memramcook-Tantramar MLA Megan Mitton and Green Party Leader David Coon sat down with Dominic Cardy, the new Minister of Education, in a wide-ranging discussion on the vision of community-supported education, the unique model being proposed in Sackville and the ways in which various government policies and approaches to education might be changed in the upcoming session of the Legislature. In particular, members of the Sackville Schools 2020 group outlined the vision of having members of the community be part of the location and type of educational facilities that would work best for their particular place.

Minister Cardy will be visiting Sackville in the next few weeks and he invited Sackville Schools 2020 to be part of a provincial Education Summit that is currently being organized by his office.

It was a pleasure starting off these first days with a new provincial government with a strong willingness to listen to new ideas. Our thanks to Megan Mitton for arranging this most positive meeting.
